Right on the seafront, the Harbour House has been taking guests since 1968, when Margaret Foley started letting two rooms to fishermen waiting out the weather. Three generations later it's still in the family, still run from the same kitchen, and still the first place in the village to put the lights on in the morning.
Eight rooms, six of them looking out over the water. Rooms are simple and warm rather than luxurious — good beds, thick curtains, an ancient radiator in the hall that clanks and is much loved. Breakfast runs from 8 to 10, with eggs from the farm at Ardnahinch and bread from the bakery two doors down. There's a residents' sitting room with a turf fire and a shelf of paperbacks left behind by previous guests.
The pier is thirty seconds from the front door. On stormy nights you'll hear it.
